Discovering Quinta do Marquês

The ITQB/EAN campus is located in this amazing place that was once a palatial villa built by Marquês de Pombal. The palace, which can still be visited in the historical center of the city, was surrounded by french gardens and fountains adorned with glazed tile walls, waterfalls, vineyards, greenhouses, orchards, an olive press, horse stables, a dairy, a pigeonaire and even a house for silkworm breeding, among others.

So, this week, on a sunny afternoon, I decided to take a walk through the 130 hectares of land (well, not all 130 hectares of course) that once were part of the Quinta do Marquês de Pombal and I was completely dazzled by its beauty.

The vineyards that produce the delicious Carcavelos wine

The green verdant fields (you could almost forget you're not on the countryside)

You can find dozens of greenhouses scattered across the campus

Casa da Pesca with its huge tank and glazed tiles

Cascata do Taveira, a big beautiful artificial waterfall

Cascata da Fonte do Oiro

Horses (ignoring me)

The abandoned pigeonaire

People jogging... reminds me of the Berkeley campus :)
